Team Updates

February 12, 2011

Week 5 has been our toughest yet! The parts for the robot have been rolling out of the machine shop steadily, allowing us to build up the robot to spec. Scouting has been making headway and will even be helping teach some new students on team 1991 all about scouting. The website is just about done and will be submitted in the coming week. Week six will prove to be a great week.

Parts are constantly being manufactured by our students in-house. It is great to be in a tech school, because of the quick turnaround times on new parts. We certainly couldn't have a season without it! Our robot will be driving to its full capability in the next week. Scouting is still producing great results and should complete a set of great scouting sheets in the next few days, then they can get started on the software!

We have had a few changes in our plans for our robot this week due to resource concerns, but we are in good hands. Our school administration has addressed any concerns and we are back to work. Our major changes pertain to our drive system, but the new plan has been implemented and we are running with it. Scouting has noticed a few software concerns, but has come up with a solution fast. We are now partnering with team 247, Da Bears, to accomplish a perfect scouting system that can be used by all, (after some testing of course). A special thanks goes out to PTC who has offered FIRST teams the use of Windchill, which we are using for this collaboration. We are 700 miles away from eachother and still getting some impressive work done! Website work is also underway, making up for last year's promise of released code. We look forward to a completed website and custom CMS this year!

This week, many of our sub-teams began drafting some great designs. A few of the groups have even begun testing. Our scouting team is off to a good start with a plan for a great computer-based system that will track matches, mechanical details, and even pictures of every robot at a particular event. We also plan to offer a kiosk for other teams to print scouting reports.

The first week of the 2011 FIRST Robotics season for BVT Robotics has been greatly productive. The following few days after the kick-off, we met as a group with students, parents, and mentors to develop concepts. After familiarizing ourselves with the purpose of the game, we split off into teams to figure out possible ideas for our robot and how we want to play the game. After our meetings throughout the week, we have come up with some great concepts for a unique robot. To fulfill our plans, we have established a few sub-teams in order to divide up the work. Sponsorship letters have been sent and we are looking forward to a great season!
