About The Team
 |
The BVT Robotics program is a place to learn and enjoy doing so in a hands-on environment. Our team is about 50 strong, and we're from thirteen different towns all over the Blackstone Valley. Our members can always be depended on to know something, or everything, about whatever challenge we're up against on any given day. We learn about electronics, mechanisms, programming, and every conceivable thing in between. When we get working, everybody is guaranteed to pick up something new: knowledge comes flying from all angles. |
Vision: To empower today's youth with passion, experience, and opportunity by creating an environment where knowledge and learning is celebrated.
Mission: Our mission is to inspire young people to become community and industry leaders, by engaging them in an exciting mentor-based program that builds science, engineering and technology skills, that inspires innovation, and that fosters well-rounded life capabilities including self-confidence, communication, and leadership.
Teamwork is vital to our function, and we work together with amazing efficiency. During the design stages, we split into sub-groups that brainstorm ideas for each aspect of the robot, and eventually combine everything into our robot. As a vocational school, we've always involved the majority of our 17 "shops" in the program as well, and during the build period, we make the most out of all of the available equipment and knowledge that each shop can offer. This year robotics has even been added to the curriculum of a few of this shops, pushing robotics education to new heights.
After the build period, we go to several regional competitions throughout the country, and depending on several factors, we occasionally compete in international championships. At this point, we've been in the competition for over 15 years, and we prevail as one of the original FIRST Robotics Teams that are still involved in the program. Since our incorporation, we're happy that the program has grown to over 3400 teams and over 150,000 students.
We encourage anybody who's remotely interested in joining to attend a BVT Robotics meeting. We're always looking for new members, and we can assure you that you'll have the time of your life!
