This Season - Breakaway!

2010 - Breakaway!

This year's game is Breakaway, where there are two alliances of three teams that will compete by trying to get soccer balls into a goal on either end of the field. These robots cannot be bigger than 28" x 38" x 60" or weigh more than 120 pounds. There are two large bumps dividing the field into three sections, and one robot from each alliance will be placed in each division at the beginning of the match. There is a tower in the center of the bump with a tunnel underneath and a platform on top. The robots can drive over the bumps and risk flipping, or drive under the tower, if their size is limited. The first 15 seconds of the match are "autonomous mode", where the robots pilot themselves and try to do as much as they can on their own. This is followed by a 2 minute "remote controlled" period. At the end of the match, additional bonus points are earned if the robot has lifted itself up onto the tower. Team 61's plan is to build a robot that will kick balls up to 30 feet, drive over the bump undaunted, and then climb the tower at the end.
